Stalker 2: dev confirms game won’t be at the Xbox Games Showcase
Developer GSC Game World has confirmed that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will not be featured in today’s Xbox Games Showcase 2023.
In response to a question posted on Steam, a representative from GSC Game World disclosed that the game would not be included in today’s event.
“We usually do not announce or deny our participation in shows, but this one time we’ll make an exception,” states the comment. “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will skip the June online conferences, preferring to make important announcements in the upcoming months.”
As one of the most anticipated upcoming Xbox Series X games, Stalker 2’s development has been significantly affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where GSC is located. Earlier this month, GSC cautioned players that Russian hackers have been targeting the Ukrainian Stalker 2 developer “for almost a year and a half,” including leaking a test build.
This followed the Stalker 2 developer’s statement to pro-Russian hackers that “attempts to intimidate us are completely futile” amidst a blackmail threat.
In October, GSC claimed the game was still on track for a 2023 release. However, given the recent events, including the war and the hacks, there’s certainly ample reason for a potential launch delay.
The Xbox Games Showcase takes place later today, immediately followed by the Starfield Direct. You can tune in from 10AM PDT / 1PM ET / 6PM BST, and we’ll be covering the Xbox Games Showcase live for all the significant reveals, updates, trailer releases, and more.
